ZIMAA UK 2016 Categories

The categories for ZIMAA UK open to public nomination are broken down into different categories. Nominations are open until the last week of November with voting beginning 4 weeks prior to the event. Below are listed the categories open for nomination this year and a brief summary of what the qualifying nominees need to have achieved over the course of the year. For nominees to qualify, the artist needs to have been active over the course of the year and the work nominated needs to have been released or produced after June 2015. The artist or work needs to have been in the United Kingdom the artist also needs to be Zimbabwean by birth, descent or naturalisation. ZIMAA UK reserves the right to verify if the nominee or their work qualifies to be considered for this year's awards. If a category does not get nominees, it will be withdrawn from this year's awards or replaced by another.

Music: Video of the Year

A music video featuring a UK based, Zimbabwean artist(s) as the main act or major supporting role released in the past year.

 

Music: Male Gospel Artist

A UK based, male Zimbabwean gospel artist who has released an album or has performed in a significant number of live shows in the past year.

 

Music: Female Gospel Artist

A UK based, female Zimbabwean gospel artist who has released an album or has performed in a significant number of live shows in the past year.

 

Music: Gospel Group of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean gospel group which has released an album or has performed in a significant number of live shows in the past year.

 

Music: Touring Artist of the Year

A Zimbabwean act that has toured the UK and performed in some live shows in the past year.

 

Music: Female Artist of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean female artist who has released an album or has performed in a significant number of live shows in the past year.

 

Music: Male Artist of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean male artist who has released an album or has performed in a significant number of live shows in the past year.

 

Music: Group of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean group that has released an album or has performed in a significant number of live shows in the past year.

 

Music: Newcomer of the Year

A debutant or debutante UK based, Zimbabwean act that has released an album or has performed in a significant number of live shows in the past year.

 

Music: DJ of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean individual DJ or crew that has been active on the party or club scene in the past year.

 

Music: Producer of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean music producer who was produced an extensive body of music in the past year.

 

Music: Video Director of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean music video director who was produced an extensive body of work in the past year.

 

Film: Film of the Year (removed)

A film (fiction or non-fiction) performed or produced in the United Kingdom by a predominantly Zimbabwean cast or addressing issues affecting Zimbabweans in the past year. Works that are filmed abroad by UK based Zimbabweans also qualify.

 

Film: Actress of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean actress who has performed in a film or TV/Web series released in the past year.

 

Film: Actor of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean actor who has performed in a film or TV/Web series released in the past year.

 

Film: Vlogger of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean vlogger who has been active in the past year.

 

Film: Director of the Year (removed)

A UK based, Zimbabwean film director who has directed a film or TV/Web series that has been released in the past year.

 

Literary Arts: Fictional Book of the Year

A book (fiction) written by a UK based, Zimbabwean writer in the past year.

 

Literary Arts: Non Fictional Book of the Year

A book (non-fiction) written by a UK based, Zimbabwean writer in the past year.

 

Literary Arts: Writer of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean writer who has written or launched a book (fiction or non-fiction) in the past year. 

 

Literary Arts: Blogger of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean blogger who has been active in the past year.

 

Fashion: Fashion Designer of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean female designer of clothing, footwear and accessories e.g. handbags and jewellery who has been active over the past year. Evidence needs to be provided that the designs are original.

 

Fashion: Model of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean fashion model who has been active in the past year.

 

Events: Event of the Year

A one-off event, tour or series of events organised by a UK based Zimbabwean promoter or promotions company e.g. artists tours, concerts, boat parties in the past year.

 

Events: Promoter of the Year

A one-off event, tour or series of events organised by a UK based Zimbabwean promoter or promotions company e.g. artists tours, concerts, boat parties in the past year.

 

Media and Broadcasting: Broadcaster of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean owned or operated radio or TV broadcaster active in the past year.

 

Media and Broadcasting: Media Group of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean owned or operated news organisation which disseminates original news stories and informative features active in the past year.

 

Media and Broadcasting: Radio Personality of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean radio presenter or DJ working for a Zimbabwean owned or non Zimbabwean owned broadcaster active in the past year.

 

Media and Broadcasting: TV Presenter of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean TV/Web show presenter working for a Zimbabwean owned or non Zimbabwean owned broadcaster active in the past year.

 

Photography and Videography: Photo & Videographer of the Year

A UK based, Zimbabwean individual or company that provides photography and videography services at events and functions including weddings, parties, concerts etc active in the past year.

 

ZIMAA UK Lifetime Achievement Award

This is an international award that is presented to an individual or group who through their work have influenced the direction of Zimbabwean artists and gained attention that goes beyond the Zimbabwean community. This category is not nominated by the public. It is presented by the ZIMAA committee.

 

ZIMAA UK Chairman’s Awards

A set of awards presented by the ZIMAA chairman to an individuals or groups who have excelled or made contributions to Zimbabwean arts in the UK.
